The United War Veterans Council will hold a traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the Eternal Light Monument in Madison Square Park at 10 a.m. The ceremony will also feature speakers, performers, a rifle salute and the playing of Taps. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

Veterans of Foreign Wars will host their annual Veterans Day commemoration ceremony at the WWI memorial at the Ocean View Cemetery in Staten Island at 10:30 a.m.
A post-parade reception will be hosted by the United War Veterans Council at the Gateway Art Center near Times Square. The reception will host members of various New York City veterans’ organizations to celebrate their common cause. For more information, click here.

Veterans Advantage, IMAX and HBO invite veterans and their familes to a free screening of “Dear America, Letters Home from Vietnam,” from HBO. This documentary, originally published as a book by the same name by Veterans Advantage CEO Scott Higgins and fellow Vietnam veterans when he served as co-chair of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Commision, is an authentic account of the Vietnam War from the actual letters of the men and women who served there. It won HBO its first Emmy nearly 30 years ago. This newly re-digitized version is being released for the 50th Commemorative Anniversary of the Vietnam War. It serves as a Veterans Day tribute to all who served and sacrificed in Vietnam.

This year’s performance is “A Reading of Letters and Memoirs from the Soldiers of the New York City Regiments of the Civil War.” The performance commemorates the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.
