Announcement of United War Veterans Council’s Veterans Day and Veterans Week festivities. Presentation by Lt. General Claude Kicklighter, Director of the Department of Defense, 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War Commemoration Flag to Mayor Bloomberg. NYC is the first city to receive this commemoration flag, and officially launches the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration.

A black tie celebration of the 237th birthday of the USMC benefiting the Intrepid Museum Foundation and the Space Shuttle Pavilion. Kim Foley will be presented with the Marine for Life Award. Military Guest of Honor is General James F. Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps. The United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps will perform.

Elmo of Sesame Street & the Talk, Listen, Connect Program

Elmo will be visiting with the under 5 military children a Fort Hamilton, bringing the love, caring and understanding as only Elmo can. Hundreds of thousands of children under the age of 5 have a parent in the military. Sesame Street’s Talk, Listen Connect program helps families during military deployments, homecomings and changes.

Step Into Their Boots – Fort Hamilton Welcoming Ceremony

“You’ve Earned It” – Veterans Affairs Seminar & Workshops

This special orientation session offers an introduction to today’s VA for veterans and their family members. On-site enrollment in the VA system will be available – please bring a copy of DD Form 214 “Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.” Offering include presentations by VA experts and explanations of the VA’s Specialized Programs, a Family Section with information on how to support or help a returning loved one and a Children’s Section will focus on the unique challenges faced by veterans’ children.
